Reviews
This iconic heritage hotel employs friendly, helpful and professional staff who made us feel welcome and comfortable right away. The location is wonderfully quiet outside of business hours and Parliamentary sitting days. Parking our car on site was easy. The room was small but completely adequate with some heritage features, nice, very clean with new furnishings, quality linen and modern bathroom. The best features of this beautiful old hotel are the heritage features that give this building so much character, the lounge, courtyard gardens, and restaurant/bar area with many different seating areas. I liked the glass enclosed veranda for having our breakfast as it had a view of the beautiful gardens. This hotel has excellent menu options. All our meals were well presented and prepared. A perfect place for a rest and as a base to see the best Canberra has to offer.
Stayed here a number of times but the first time in the standard rooms. A great hotel within walking distance to Kingston and a great deal of public buildings. Good parking available all around the hotel, especially on weekends. Hotel and more importantly the rooms are always super clean and beds super comfortable.
A few minor whinges from this particular visit:
What was really bizarre on this visit was that the Bar and Restaurant was closed on a Sunday.
It would be a good idea for the Hotel to change the sprinkler timings in the outdoor are. We were sitting out reading a book and the sprinklers kicked off. Hot and windy day so no avoiding the drenching.
There was a constant winning motor noise in the courtyard behind room 138., this would be the same in the whole of that particular wing facing the courtyard.
Last but not least, a great deal of 'older' people stay at this hotel, and a great deal of them wear glasses. The shower contains 3 x containers with soap, shampoo and conditioner. The wording on these are tiny so its pot luck on what you are using.
I travel a bit each year to Canberra, and whilst I’ve stayed at other hotels, I still find myself coming back here. Everything is well kept, it’s understated luxury without being over the top. The staff are attentive and friendly and the king suites which I usually stay in are roomy and well appointed.
Chifly’s Restaurant is probably one of the better in-house places I’ve dined at, the slow cooked lamb shoulder is my pick from the menu as a main. The pork belly entree is equally as fantastic, just don’t let the fresh chilli scare you off - it’s the right amount of heat without trying to kill you.
The room’s are quiet, even with people coming and going through the start and end of the day, you won’t notice it too much.
Definitely a place to stay when in Canberra!
We had the most wonderful stay here! Rooms were well equipped, very comfy beds and great heating. As with all old hotels you expect some noise, unluckily for us we had some children continually running up and down the hallway above us… …
Had an amazing stay with Hotel Kurrajong! My partner and I had our wedding reception at the beautiful venue seven years ago and upon our arrival to stay again, we were upgraded as a lovely surprise! A shout out to Ashley too, she had organised chocolates and wine for our room with a lovely welcome back note from the team. Thanks Hotel Kurrajong for another wonderful visit!
1. I can't lock one of my room windows. That's pretty bad for security. The manager said he'll send someone to fix it in the morning. So much for a good night sleep! …
Beautiful heritage hotel. Staff were very friendly. The cleanliness of the rooms was poor. Pillowcases were not even put on properly (not encased at the ends), carpets were definitely not recently vacuumed and had visible hair and other debris. The shampoo and body wash in the shower was empty. Rooms on higher levels can be challenging to get to when you have to go up stairs carrying heavy luggage. Overall a lovely hotel but the cleanliness definitely needs some improvement.
Perfect & cosy for work short stays. I didn’t have a chance to try the restaurant yet hence 4 stars for service, but will revisit soon and re-score when I do. Room was immaculate, easy check in and check out. Didn’t have chance to explore …
